My Life Was Changed at Warrior Leadership SummitMy mother, Mary, was born on a dirt floor in a small house called a hogan, in Northwest New Mexico on the Navajo Reservation. She was raised by her grandparents who were very traditional and she spoke her Native language, Navajo, until she was taken to boarding school at the age of eight. She had a joy for life and loved to read books, especially the series "Dick and Jane." She vowed to live the life of "Dick and Jane," where they had running water in their house and Jane didn't have to raise sheep. My mother graduated from high school and went on to college and earned her degree in education. She had me a few years later.

Five Months and Counting! PDF Print E-mail
Blogs - Antoinette Picard

In case you don’t know me, my name is Antoinette, but most people call me “Pooie”. This is my tenth year with On Eagles’ Wings! I began working in the office in October, and was also here after the Summer of Hope wrapped up in August (after the OEW trip to the Southwest and Peru!).

Believe it or not, 2010 is already here, and WLS is going to be here before you know it. One of my favorite WLS memories is the first night worship session. Nothing is better than entering into the King’s presence with 600+ Native youth.

When I arrived home in September, it was great to see that WLS fund raising had already started for my Nez Perce crew! They pledged to do a fundraiser every month for the whole year. I helped out at a yard sale, bake sale, and an Indian taco sale the time I was there. They have definitely kept the momentum going to keep their goal. Five months ‘til WLS 2010 and I want to remind you it is never too late or too early to begin your fund raising.

As the next 5 months fly by, the On Eagles’ Wings staff will be praying for each of you, and the tribe you represent at Warrior Leadership Summit 2010!
